^What is a city card?

The city card is a memory chip card that is used to pay fares on public transport in the cities of Hradec Králové and Pardubice. Gradually, however, it will become a means of payment for the payment of various services and events provided and organized by the city, e.g. parking fees, entrance fees to social, cultural and sports events, entry to the landfill sites of the Technical Services, etc. Its advantages will in the future also include the possibility of paying fares in within the integrated transport system with the participation of other carriers in the region.

The client can now use the city card as a library card to the Study and Science Library in Hradec Králové, using all the services that the library offers to registered readers. At the present time, it is also possible to use the city card to enter the Flošna summer swimming pool, the Flošna Wellness studio, which is open all year round, and for entry to the Municipal Spa-Aquacenter and Swimming Pool 50 m and to identify the reader in the Hradec Králové City Library.

The city card can be issued in the following forms:

a. PERSONAL CARD – means a City Card that identifies its holder and issuer through identification data. This data can be recorded on the card in flat print or only electronically in the card's memory. The card made of plastic has dimensions of approx. 85x54 mm. A chip and a communication antenna are pressed into the card. The face of the card bears the serial number of the card, the coat of arms of the statutory city of Hradec Králové, or a photo and the name and surname of the holder. The back cover has the publisher's logo and instructions for the holder stating the publisher's trade name. The personal data listed on the Personal Card and communicated to the issuer when it is issued are recorded by the issuer in its record system.
b. FREE CARD - a non-personalized chip card is a type of portable City card that does not contain information about the holder and is freely available for sale without the need to fill out an application for issuance and provide any personal information.
c. ANONYMOUS CARD – a type of non-transferable City card for which no record of its holder is kept in the issuer's system (personal data is not collected). The print of the card shows personal data in the range of name, surname, photo, for the purpose of carrying out transport control.

^What advantages does smart card check-in in public transport bring to passengers?

  • acceleration and simplification of check-in
  • the possibility of traveling for a lower fare in a shorter time
  • possibility of cashless payment of individual fares not only for the card holder, but also for passengers, always at a lower price than with the use of paper tickets
  • possibility of transferring a valid time ticket and returning the balance of electronic wallet funds to another card if the card is lost or stolen
  • there is no need to issue a new paper birth certificate upon reaching the age limit for changing the discount category and at the beginning of each school year (for students)
  • later the possibility of remote charging of the card by cashless transfer from the account
  • in the next stage  possibility of cashless payment of fares with other carriers integrated into the system (Czech Railways, bus carriers) and payments for some services in city facilities

^How can the chip card be used?

The card can be “charged” like:

  • a time ticket with an optional period of validity, similar to previous time tickets
  • a so-called electronic wallet, designed to pay for any individual ticket in the public transport network in Hradec Králové, not only for the card holder, but also for fellow passengers - up to four in Hradec Králové

^What is an "electronic wallet"?

The card includes an electronic chip that is used as a memory. Part of this memory is used as a so-called electronic wallet, in which the amount the passenger has stored (recharged) in the wallet is recorded, and when paying from the wallet, individual payments are deducted from this credit.

^It is possible to use a single card for a time ticket and at the same time as an e-ticket. wallet?

Yes, the card allows you to use both of these functions, which are independent of each other. Activation of both functions is carried out automatically when the card is produced and is included in the handling fee for issuing the card.

^Which tickets can be charged to the card and which can be paid with the card?

It is possible to upload up to 4 different timed tickets with consecutive, interrupted or even overlapping validity periods to the City Card. If the necessary funds are inserted in the electronic wallet, the cardholder can pay for up to 4 individual tickets for fellow passengers when boarding the vehicle, of any type, depending on the choice made on the touch screen by pressing the “Options for fellow passengers” button. If the cardholder travels on individual tickets, after getting into the vehicle and simply bringing the card closer to the reading zone (without any presets), the individual fare corresponding to his category (full or discounted, or discounted transfer) is always deducted from his wallet.

^How to get a chip card?

You need to get a request form, either at the ticket shops Dopravní podniku města Hradec Králové, a.s. or on internet pages www.dpmhk.cz. The interested party then submits the completed form together with one passport-sized photo and the handling fee at one of the DPmHK stores, where they will be notified when their card will be ready for collection.

We also recommend applying for the issuance of a card on-line via the website

^Is there a payment for issuing the card?

Yes, handling fee for issuing the City Card according to the current price list.

^How does check-in take place in public transport vehicles?

Check-in is practically the same as before - boarding public transport vehicles during all days is possible through all doors, in the evening after 7 p.m. through the front door with the driver checking the validity of the card. Passengers with a timed ticket present their card at the time of boarding at all doors only during transport control (ticket revision). This is also the same as the previous practice. The card is not removed from the case at all and can usually be left in the wallet during check-in.

^Is the purchase of a card mandatory?

No, it is not, but from January 1, 2006, timed tickets can only be purchased with the City Card or via the HopOn mobile application.  Individual fares in cash (i.e. without a City Card) will also be possible to pay with the driver in the future, but at a higher price.

^What has changed for older passengers, pensioners?

When traveling in public transport vehicles, passengers use a timed ticket loaded onto the card in the same way as a paper one.  From 1 January 2006, passengers over 65 years of age can also pay discounted individual fares in public transport vehicles with a card.

^How should holders of ZTP cards act?

All passengers who are entitled to free transport, such as holders of a ZTP, ZTP-P card (including a guide or a dog), will continue to travel on public transport in Hradec Králové for free and will be shown with the same document as before , so you don't need to ask for a card.

^What is the best fare for pupils and students?

The assortment of discounted tickets, usable for students, has been extended by 6-month (calendar) discounted tickets since January 1, 2006. The most advantageous time ticket for pupils and students is a 12-month ticket valid from September 1. until 31.8. the following year. A student can purchase an annual or half-yearly (calendar) discounted ticket if he has an I.S.I.C. card valid for the entire calendar year. Students cannot use individual discounted fares, even during the period of validity of the right to the discount (it is can only be applied to time tickets).

^How long will my card last before I need a new one?

According to the manufacturer, the life of the card with standard handling is  5 years. This period can be individually extended according to the current status of the individual cards after the expiry of this period. On the other hand, handling the card in violation of the instructions for its use, such as bending it when placed against the reader, shortens its service life.

^If a new card is needed after its life span, will it be charged for issuing it?

Yes, just like when renewing payment cards or personal documents. The warranty for the issued card is 24 months.

^I have a permanent residence outside Hradec Králové. Can I get a card too?

Yes, every citizen, regardless of their place of residence, can apply for a card.

^What should I do if my card is lost or stolen?

It is possible to block the card. This prevents the withdrawal of funds from the electronic wallet and the misuse of the time ticket, and these funds and the time ticket can then be “played” to a new card. Blocking is done in person at DPmHK sales points. If the applicant provided a password for blocking on the application, blocking can be done by phone on phone number 495 089 271.

^What password can I choose to block the card?

The password can take the form of any series of alphanumeric characters (letters, numbers or their combination) in the range of 4 to 23 characters without spaces. There is no need to distinguish between upper and lower case letters.

^How can I check when my time ticket expires on my card or how much  funds left in the electronic wallet?

Every cardholder can check the status of the card at any time on the screen of any reading device in the public transport vehicle (time ticket validity, discount entitlement expiry, card validity expiry, balance of electronic wallet funds, time to transfer to the next connection to apply the discounted transfer fare and additional data) after pressing the “INFO“ on the touch screen and bringing the card closer to the sensor. The balance status or validity of the time ticket can also be checked on our e-shop.

^What is changing about the VYDIS system?

The introduction of the City Card in Hradec Králové does not change anything about the VYDIS system, only that the DPmHK will no longer issue paper public transport passes, which were previously accepted by the Czech Railways as proof of the right to use a discounted one-day or seven-day and 30-day VYDIS citizen ticket.
