The Hradec Králové City Transport Company, a.s. in cooperation with TENDERA partners s.r.o. prepared documentation for the selection of a supplier of 31 partial trolleybuses at the end of 2024. Subsequently, in cooperation with the aforementioned company, a tender procedure was conducted, which resulted in the signing of a contract with Škoda Group in September this year. The framework contract envisages the possibility of supplying up to 18 12-metre long 32Tr type trolleybuses and 13 double-articulated 33Tr type trolleybuses with a length of 18 metres for the trolleybus operation in Hradec Králové. All of the SOR-bodied vehicles will be equipped with a traction battery that will enable operation off the overhead line. The individual vehicles are to be delivered within 11 months of the partial orders being placed. The value of the contract is up to CZK 530 million. The transport company also received a significant amount of money for the new trolleybuses from EU subsidy programmes.

„The expansion of the fleet with new partial trolleybuses means for us the possibility to serve urban districts more flexibly and at the same time to provide passengers with higher comfort and safety. Hradec Králové is one of the cities that has long relied on environmentally friendly urban transport, and thanks to this contract we will be able to fulfill this commitment even more,“ said Zdeněk Abraham, Chairman of the Board and Director of DPHK.

„Hradec Králové is an important partner for us, with whom we have a long tradition of cooperation. The newly delivered Škoda 32Tr and 33Tr trolleybuses will not only bring modern technology to the city, but also concrete experience from our other projects in the Czech Republic and abroad,“ added Karel Majer, Chairman of the Board of Škoda Electric in the Škoda Group.

With the purchase, the Hradec Králové Transport Company significantly modernizes its trolleybus fleet. Out of a total of 41 vehicles of this type of drive, 31 of them should be renewed by 2028, which amounts to more than 70 %. The new vehicles meet all trends and current requirements of public transport. Among other things, the trolleybuses will be equipped with air conditioning for the entire compartment, including the driver's workplace, or CCTV monitoring, including front and rear security cameras.

Unlike the cars that the new trolleybuses will replace, the 32Tr and 33Tr types are all equipped with batteries that allow the vehicle to move in short sections even off the overhead lines. This gives the Hradec Králové Transport Company the opportunity to deploy the new trolleybuses also on routes that are not covered by trolleybus lines in their entire length. Moreover, it is another step in the long-term strategy of Hradec Králové towards ecological transport. Emission-free operation will thus be even more widespread. Hradec Králové has been one of the traditional trolleybus operations in the Czech Republic since May 1949.

The transport company was also successful in obtaining subsidies. The Integrated Regional Operational Programme will help with the modernisation of the fleet. Within the framework of IROP and ITI, the subsidies will cover up to 85% of the original price of 18 vehicles.
